What were you doing before training?
Primary school teacher
What inspired you to be Nail Technician?
I’ve always loved creativity and the idea of getting to know and meet lots of different people. When I realised that teaching was getting me down, ill and stressed, I reassessed what was important to me and found out that I wanted a job where I could be flexible, creative and make people feel good whilst not making myself ill and taking a big cut in earnings.
What was holding you back from training?
I was petrified of leaving what I knew and scared that, financially, I wouldn’t be able to afford it. I was also incredibly anxious about ensuring I got the best quality training - I had no friends or family who worked in the industry, no knowledge and for me, it was incredibly important that I had faith in my trainer to allow me to develop and become the best that I could.
Why did you chose to train with By Jessica Morris?
I searched high and low for trainers and courses. From college ones to independent salons and well-known brands, but there was something about Jess’s approach which meant I actually believed she would help and guide me to what I wanted to be. Her quality of work is by far the best I’ve ever seen and something I will continually aspire to be, but she is not arrogant about it. I remember messaging her to enquire about the course and the way she responded was so genuine and helpful, I just knew that I had found the right person who I trusted to help me have the best start.
What was training like for you?
I chose the ultimate 1-day nail course which involved Jess teaching me gel and biab 1:1. Her professionalism was second to none and from the get go she made me feel so welcome and at ease. She provided me with a kit and explained what everything was, I also got a manual detailing everything that we had covered on the day (I look back in it now just to clarify a few things if needed). No question was silly and I came away feeling like I could actually do this on my own! Since training, I’ve had a few questions and Jess has always given me the help and guidance I’ve needed.
Where you are now?
I’m almost one year into my nail career and from September, I will be going part-time in teaching! Never in a million years did I think I would be in a position where I could allow myself to go down to part-time in my main job, all because I am doing something which I love. I am without a doubt the happiest and healthiest that I have ever been, mentally and physically. My job is now something that I love and I can be flexible with it around myself and my family.
What have you achieved or are most proud of since qualifying?
I’ve built up a client base and made some amazing friends all through being a nail tech. I’ve also allowed myself to go part-time as a teacher, which is something I’ve been dreaming of doing for years.
What are your Plans for the future?
My long-term plans are to go full-time and invest in an outbuilding for my workspace, as I currently work from my spare room. For the short term, I want to go on some more training to uplevel my skills and better my work.

Training with Jess was by far the best decision I made and has set me up in such a good stead for my nail career. I chose the ultimate one day course and although it was a little more money, I got her undivided time and attention to allow me to really develop and learn everything that I needed to. No question was too big or too small for Jess. She made me feel so welcome and at ease and I left feeling ready to start 🫶🏻 Jess provided me with absolutely everything I needed in my kit, including a helpful guide which I still look back at now if I’m stuck!
